Amsterdam, the capital city of Holland is perhaps the most popular tourist destination in entire Europe. Apart from its natural scenery, Amsterdam has countless places of tourist attractions. The city has a smart, fast and efficient public transport system that is designed to help incoming tourists. However, what pinches many people coming here on vacations is the high price of accommodation whether it is hotels or apartments that have been built just for this purpose. This article tries to suggest alternative places to stay for tourists coming to Amsterdam. Amsterdam apartments may be a good idea, as is the case with apartment Paris or an apartment Budapest if your next stops happen to be France and Hungary respectively. If you have no issues with their price apartments in Amsterdam are ideal as they provide more living space and also facilities for preparing meals in kitchens.
For those on a budget, there are options in terms of Rotterdam and Leiden as these are cities fairly close to Amsterdam and reaching the capital from these cities is quick and easy. In fact, many tourists have started to choose Leiden for their accommodation and Rotterdam seems to be a second choice simply because it takes much less time to reach Amsterdam from Leiden. Trains are efficient but take longer than air planes. If you are on a low budget, travelling through train, as it takes time, might not be a good idea if you are staying for only a few days. It makes sense if you are in Amsterdam for over a week. Den Haag is another small city near Amsterdam that takes an hour to reach from Amsterdam and offers cheaper accommodation than Amsterdam.
There is another small town called Haarlem that is just 15 minute travel on train from Amsterdam and has some hotels that are nice and comfortable and also priced much less than expensive hotels in Amsterdam. One can get to see many museums in this town as well. However, the only drawback is that if you wish to take a train back from Amsterdam at the dead of the night, it is not possible, so better to stay away from the famous nightlife of Amsterdam.
It is a fact that hotels in Amsterdam are always expensive. But whatever you save in terms of money by staying in cities adjacent to the capital city might be offset by the time taken in transit. This works well if you have ample amount of time at your disposal as you save on your hard earned money. But if you have limited time at your disposal as the trip to Amsterdam is for a short duration, it is prudent to find a hostel in Amsterdam so that you are required to pay much less for your accommodation in the capital city. This also gives more time to you to see more of Amsterdam attractions and to engage in many more exciting activities as you will not be wasting your time in the transit from a suburb to Amsterdam and back.
